Assateague Island National Seashore

Assateague Island National Seashore

On a whim, we decided to head out for some surf fishing on Assateague Island on the Maryland coast.  Assateague is a beautiful destination this time of the year.  The beach is empty, the horse flies and mosquitoes have yet to invade, and the Public Schools are still in session.  Being a 2-1/2 hour drive it's a great place to "plant" the ALINER near the dunes and not have to hustle home at the end of a tiring day of fishing.

Best time to be at Assateague
Tucked in next to the dunes.

The skies and the temperature cooperated, but the wind decided to be less so, and hung in around 20-25 mph making fishing much more difficult.  The Bay Side of Assateague also offered it's challenges due to the winds holding out the water resulting in shallow water fishing conditions.

In the evening the temps dropped to the lower 40's and the winds made it feel in the mid to lower 30's.  Thank goodness for the ALINER furnace which kept the temps at a cozy 68-70 degrees inside.

Got a little "Nippy" after Sunset

So even with poor fishing conditions it was an enjoyable trip to the beach where Corona's and good cigars replaced cleaning fish!

I even had a few "Uninvited Guest" for lunch!

Until Next Time.........
